Frequently asked questions
What is breathwork?
Breathwork is an umbrella term for intentional, controlled breathing techniques that can improve your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. At Oz Breathwork, we specialize in conscious connected breathwork (CCB) — a technique also referred to as circular breathing, where you breathe in and out in a connected rhythm without pauses. This method is designed to reduce stress, release stored emotions, and promote deep relaxation.
What are the benefits of conscious connected breathwork (CCB)?
CCB can:
Lower stress hormones like cortisol and significantly reduce stress and anxiety
Help relieve trauma-related symptoms, including those associated with PTSD
Improve mood, mental clarity, focus, and emotional regulation
Support better sleep, energy levels, immune function, and lung capacity
Encourage emotional release, mental clarity, and a feeling of inner peace
How will I feel after a session?
Many people report feeling lighter, calmer, and more energized. Some experience emotional release during the session and a deep sense of clarity and connection afterwards — often described as “20 years of therapy in one session.”
How does the Spa differ from a traditional day spa?
The Salt Health Spa is rooted in whole-person wellness rather than cosmetic or indulgence-only services. Treatments are thoughtfully selected to support nervous system regulation, physical recovery, and long-term wellbeing, often integrating seamlessly with Salt Health’s clinical and functional medicine services.
Do I need to be a Salt Health medical patient to use the Spa?
No, with a pass, you will be able to access the spa services Salt Health patients get with their membership.
How does conscious connected breathwork work?
CCB, also called circular breathing, involves breathing in and out through the mouth in a smooth, continuous pattern, with no pauses between breaths. This increases oxygen flow, activates the parasympathetic nervous system, and can trigger the release of physical tension and emotional blocks.
What can I expect during a breathwork session?
Sessions are done lying comfortably on your back, with music playing and guided support from your facilitator. You may experience tingling, temperature changes, emotional release, or altered states of awareness. These sensations are normal and part of the healing process.
How should I prepare for a session?
Wear comfortable clothing, avoid heavy meals, stay hydrated, and choose a quiet space without distractions. Approach the session with an open mind and a willingness to explore your inner experience.
How often should I practice breathwork?
This varies by individual. Some benefit from weekly sessions, while others integrate breathwork into their daily or monthly wellness routines. Even one session can produce noticeable changes.
Who should consider a VO₂ Max test?
VO₂ Max testing is beneficial for athletes, individuals beginning or optimizing a fitness program, and those interested in understanding their cardiovascular health more precisely. It is also useful for setting accurate training zones, tracking progress over time, and personalizing exercise recommendations.
What services are offered in the Salt Health Spa?
The Salt Health Spa offers restorative, wellness-focused services designed to support relaxation, recovery, and overall health. Amenities include therapeutic sauna experiences with infrared and steam, a cold plunge shower, fully stocked showers and locker rooms, gym access, and a dedicated aromatherapy room for deep relaxation.
Is Breathwork safe?
Yes — for most healthy individuals, breathwork is safe when guided properly. However, there are certain health conditions (such as cardiovascular problems, epilepsy, recent surgeries, or pregnancy) that may require medical clearance before participating.
How is breathwork different from hyperventilation?
Breathwork is intentional, paced, and safe when guided by a trained facilitator. Hyperventilation is rapid, uncontrolled breathing that can cause harmful imbalances in blood chemistry. CCB focuses on deep, rhythmic breathing to oxygenate the body and calm the nervous system.
Who should avoid breathwork?
Those with cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, a history of seizures, certain psychiatric conditions, or who are pregnant should consult a healthcare provider before participating. Please share any medical concerns with your facilitator beforehand.
What is a VO₂ Max test?
A VO₂ Max test measures the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilize during intense exercise. It is widely regarded as the gold standard for assessing cardiovascular fitness and aerobic capacity. The results provide objective insight into your endurance, heart-lung efficiency, and overall metabolic performance.
How is the VO₂ Max test performed?
The test is typically conducted on a treadmill or stationary bike while you wear a mask that analyzes your breathing. Exercise intensity gradually increases until you reach maximal effort. Throughout the test, key metrics such as oxygen consumption, heart rate, and ventilation are monitored in a controlled, supervised environment.

“Breathwork with Lance is an amazing and life changing experience. He makes you feel safe, honored and comfortable to be who you need to be as you work through your breath. He meets you where you are at. It is not always easy work, but it is transformative. Lance is the only person I trust to be with me in such a personal experience. Try it, you are worth it!”
